William Earle ìBillî Rorer, Sr., 92, died peacefully on December 28, 2012 at Williamsburg Landing with his son by his side. He was born on February 5, 1920 in Lynchburg, VA to David Parker Rorer and Elizabeth Johnson Rorer. He was a graduate of Brookville High School in Lynchburg. He married Rachel Wright on Pearl Harbor Day (Dec 7, 1941) and shortly thereafter joined the United States Coast Guard. During WWII he was assigned to Coast Guard Station Ocracoke, NC where he served as a Communications Specialist. He then worked for the C&P Telephone Company for over 40 years as a Field Engineer until his retirement.

Bill was an avid and accomplished woodworker, creating many beautiful furniture pieces over the years. He was an active member of the Williamsburg Baptist Church and served in many capacities at the church for over 50 years. He was a life member and past president of the Newport News Chapter Telephone Pioneers of America and a past president of the Greater Williamsburg Exchange Club. He was a Past Master of the Williamsburg Masonic Lodge no. 6 and Past Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 103. He was a member of the Newport News Valley of Scottish Rite, the Khedive Shrine, Knights of Mecca, and the Williamsburg Shrine Club.

Mr. Rorer was preceded in death by his first wife, Rachel Wright Rorer.

He is survived by his wife, Fannye Scruggs Rorer; children, William Earle Rorer, Jr., PGM (Judy), Brenda Lamb, Tresa Bobbitt (Larry), Billy Scruggs (Sharon), Lee Scruggs (Pam). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Londereeí Rorer-Kerrick, William Rorer III, Hannah Morrison, Dusty Lamb, Michael Lamb, Chrystal Lamb, Christopher Lamb, Wendy Douglas, Jennifer Phillips, Sam Scruggs, Daniel Scruggs, Mary Warren Viles, Caroline Scruggs, Tresa Scruggs, Charlie Scruggs, Noah Scruggs, and Isaac Scruggs; great-grandchildren Cason Rorer-Kerrick, Tim Morrison, Leanna Morrison, Darius Briggs, Michelle Lamb, Michael Lamb, Micyia Lamb, Micylin Lamb, Myron Lamb, Ryanne Lamb, Heaven Lamb and JJ Lamb, Erin Chime, Erica Douglas, Christina Douglas, Tristan Douglas, Dylan Sheets, and Kayli Phillips; and several great great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 3, 2013 at the Bucktrout Funeral Home in Williamsburg from 5:00 PM until 7:30 PM. A Memorial Eastern Star Service will take place at 5:30 PM at the funeral home. Interment will take place on Friday, January 4, 2013 at 10:00 AM at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Williamsburg with Christian, Masonic and Coast Guard Honor Guard services. A Celebration of Life Service and Reception will take place at the Williamsburg Baptist Church, 227 Richmond Road at 11:00 AM following the interment.
