Warren Aubrey Stansbury, 91, of Patriots Colony at Williamsburg, died Saturday, October 11, 2014. Son of William Aubrey and Louise Richardson Stansbury of Richmond, he was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Ann Burcher Stansbury and his son-in-law, Bruce L. Baines. He is survived by five children, Barbara S. and Dr. Lawrence Oliver, of Lewiston, Maine, Warren W. Stansbury of St. Croix, Susan S. and P. Randolph Leslie of Blacksburg, Elizabeth S. Baines and Robert Bonham of Richmond, and David B. and Therese Gerloff Stansbury of Poquoson; sisters, Betty S. Lomax of Salisbury, North Carolina and Mary S. Peake of Newport News; and four grandchildren, Matthew Stansbury Baines and Nicholas Anderson Baines of Virginia Beach, and Olivia Ann Stansbury and Isabella Grace Stansbury of Poquoson, and a very special friend, Mary Elizabeth Shwiller of Patriots Colony.
Stansbury was a graduate of the University of Richmond and served as a naval officer during WW II and the Korean Conflict. He was a retired District Manager for C. & P. Telephone Co. His years of volunteer community service were recognized by American Red Cross, U. S. Junior Chamber of Commerce, Northumberland Public Library, Rappahannock Community College, Northern Neck Bar Association and Northumberland Association for Progressive Stewardship.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Patriots Colony on Route 5 in Williamsburg at 3:00pm on Thursday, October 30, 2014. Inurnment will be private at the University of Richmond. Those wishing to do so may make memorial donations to The Patriots Fund, 6000 Patriots Colony Dr., Williamsburg, Virginia 23188, Jamestown Presbyterian Church, 3287 Ironbound Road, Williamsburg, Virginia 23188, or charity of their choice.
