Walter Thomas OíConnor, 93, of Williamsburg died Nov. 24. He was born January 19, 1921 in the Bronx, NY. He was preceded in death by 8 siblings, and his wife Josephine, to whom he was happily married for 67 wonderful years. Heís now in Heaven with his ìbrideî (as he always called her).
After his wifeís death, Walter lived with his daughter and son-in-law, Candice and Kenneth Rice, for almost 5 years. He added endless joy and treasured memories to their lives, as he did for all who knew him. He was also the father of the late Thomas OíConnor, and loving, generous ìPopPopî of 5 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Walter proudly served our country as a Marine in WWII, then worked as a Senior Court Officer in Nassau County, NY. Once in VA, he volunteered in Charlottesville for 20 years at Martha Jefferson Hospital and ten years with Meals on Wheels. He was an inspiration- lived life to its fullest and always put others first. His family and friends meant everything to him, and he meant everything to us.
Weíll miss his smiling blue eyes and unmatchable Irish wit, yet we are so grateful he lived as long as he did and passed peacefully, sleeping in his own bed, with his loved ones nearby.
A Funeral Mass will be held Dec 19, 11 a.m. at St. Bede Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Jude Childrenís Research Hospital: 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 (www.stjude.org).
