Vincent (Vince) M. Zajac, 90, husband, grandfather,avid sportsman and a retired certified financial planner, died on March 7, 2023 in Williamsburg, VA with his loving wife of 70 years by his side.
The son of the late Vincent F. Zajac and Mary C. Ciolkowski Zajac, he was born on January 1, 1933, in Adams, Massachusetts.
Vince married his high school sweetheart, Betty Lou DuBois on February 7, 1953 and they raised their four children in Adams. Betty and Vince moved to Williamsburg, VA in 2003.
Vince served in the U.S. Army, completing basic training and leadership school at Ft. Dix, NJ in 1953, and later served a 14-month tour of duty with the 18thInfantry in Germany.
Vince was a life-long sports enthusiast. He lettered in high school basketball, baseball, and football. He was a well-known high school basketball and football referee in Berkshire County, MA. An avid paddle baller and a ranked tennis player, he coached the North Adams State College women’s tennis team for a number of years. He was a long-time member, as well as past president and treasurer, of the Williams College Sideline Quarterback Club. Vince continued playing tennis in Williamsburg well into his 80’s. He was a fixture on the courts at Kingsmill Resort.
Active in the Adams community, Vince served on the Adams Board of Registrars, was Chairman of the Adams Housing Authority and was Commander of American Legion Post 160. He was the recipient of the Adams-Cheshire Regional School District’s Community Service Award in 1996 for his work promoting civic values in the Adams Middle School.
He was predeceased by his son, Daniel V. Zajac, and his brothers Edwin and Chester Zajac.
In addition to his wife, Vince leaves his children, Susan Provins of Milford, NH, Mitchell Zajac and his wife, Colleen, of Adams, MA, and Patricia Walsh and her husband Tom of Morristown, N.J.; as well as seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to the St. Stanislaus school in Adams, MA through the Bucktrout Funeral Home in Williamsburg, VA.
A small service will be held on Friday March 10, at 10:00 AM at the Bucktrout Funeral Home in Williamsburg, VA with an Interment in Adams, MA this spring.
