Vera Ann Cooper, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on December 27, 2023, in Williamsburg, VA. She dedicated her life to the pursuit of knowledge and the joy of teaching others. As a college professor at Southwest Virginia Community College, Ann’s passion for education was evident not only in the classroom but also in various church activities and most importantly, in the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Ann found immense joy in spending time with her family and friends. Whether it was sharing cherished moments or engaging in lively conversations, she treasured each moment spent with her loved ones. In her leisure time, Ann indulged in her many interests, including reading, writing, sewing, crocheting, and dancing. Her summers were always filled with joy as she relished the company of her family during their beach vacations. Additionally, she had a special place in her heart for the cats that became part of her family, showering them with love and care.

A devout member of Hickory Neck Episcopal Church, Ann actively participated in numerous church and women’s organizations. Her faith and involvement in her church community held great significance in her life, providing her with solace and strength. Her faith in God guided her life.

Ann is preceded in death by her parents, Matthew and Vera Cooper, her grandson Hobie Glenn Cartrette, and her sister-in-law, Bettie Cooper. She leaves behind cherished memories in the hearts of her daughters Elizabeth (Matthew) McKenna and Kim (Frank) Spivey; her brother, Lt. Gen Matthew T. Cooper, USMC, ret.; her nieces and nephew, Elizabeth H. Benoit, Matthew D. Cooper, and Caroline G. Cooper; her grandchildren, Maggie McKenna Allred (Jon) and children, Maura McKenna Plummer (Phil) and children, Benjamin McKenna, Brigid McKenna, Andrew McKenna, Janie McKenna, Brooke Cartrette Rowe (Shane) and children, Jasmin Spivey, Angel Spivey; and her dear friend Don Bartholomay.

A service to honor Ann’s life will be held on Friday, January 5, 2023, at 11:00 AM, at Hickory Neck Episcopal Church located at 8300 Richmond Road, Williamsburg, VA 23168. Ann will be greatly missed by everyone that loves her. She lived her life joyfully, sharing her gifts with everyone she encountered.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hickory Neck Episcopal Church.
