In Loving Memory of “Efrem” Serapion More Penano (1951-2023)

Cavite City, Philippines – Williamsburg, VA
Serapion “Efrem” Penano peacefully passed away on December 5, 2023 in Williamsburg, VA at the age of 72.
Chief Master Sergeant Penano served his country during a long and distinguished career in the United States Air Force and Civil Service. His accomplishments include serving as a member of the initial Air Mobility Command team that deployed in support of Operation Desert Shield. His leadership during that operation was recognized with the Bronze Star Medal. The Chief took great pride in being the first to establish operations for Military Airlift Command at Los Angeles International Airport and for the 438th Aerial Port Squadron at Philadelphia International Airport. Later in his career, he served as Chief, Pacific Aerial Port Operations for the 634th Air Mobility Support Squadron and directed command transportation support to Operations Noble Anvil, Desert Fox, and Desert Thunder for Air Combat Command.
Efrem is survived by his wife, Carol Penano, and his children, Shannon Penano and Jeffrey Penano. The family is proud of his military service, but will also cherish the memories of his love of music and shrimping nets.
Family and friends will be invited to attend services at Arlington National Cemetery at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
