Sarah Whittington Hayes Armistead, 99, passed away peacefully at home on March 28, 2018. She was born to the late John Whittington Hayes and Sallie Cox Hayes on July 8, 1918 in Newport News, Virginia.

Sarah was preceded in death by her husband, Judge Robert Travis Armistead and daughter, Sallie Armistead Wilson.

Left to cherish her memory are: her son, Robert Travis Armistead, Jr., and his wife Kay; daughter, Mary Armistead Hogge, and her husband Ralph; Grandchildren, Elizabeth Ware Armistead, Judith Armistead Reeves and her husband Kevin; great-grandchildren, Katherine and Emily Reeves.

Sarah graduated from Longwood College and pursued a career in education as a teacher. She was a member of Bruton Parish Church and a devoted wife and mother.

A graveside service will take place at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Williamsburg, VA on Saturday, March 31st at 3:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Red Cross, Children’s Hospital of the Kings Daughters or a charity of your choice.
