Sandra Rathkamp Luchsinger, former Newport News Public School teacher, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2016 after a 30 year battle with diabetes.  Sandy was born February 22, 1954 in Dallas, Texas and later moved with her family to Nebraska. Upon her graduation from the University of Nebraska, she began her teaching career in the public schools of Lincoln, Nebraska. Sandy was a beautiful young ballet dancer, baton twirler, and cheerleader. She had a lovely voice and sang in school and church choirs. She is survived by her parents, the Rev. Hugo and Ann Rathkamp of Williamsburg; two sons, Adam and Johnathan Luchsinger of Omaha, Nebraska;  sister Grace P. Rathkamp of Charlotte, North Carolina; brother, Paul J. Rathkamp of Danville, California; and many other beloved friends and relatives. A family graveside service was held at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Williamsburg, with the Rev. Dr. Bill Jones of Williamsburg United Methodist Church officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to the Ameican Diabetes Assocaition, P.O. Box 111454, Alexandria, VA 22312

    I worked with Sandy at Lee Hall Early Childhood. We worked across the hall for 2 years and I got to know her quite well. She was funny and always laughing. I will miss her. Praying for her family that they will have peace.
