Ruth Marion Hickman Southard born March 17, 1940 to Corty and William Hickman in a little town on the Eastern Shore called, Little Hell passed away on June 12, 2014. One year after her birth they moved to Williamsburg where Ruth grew up. Right after the war, her family moved to Camp Peary where she attended school and her new adopted father Frank Williams cut timber for the United States Government. While there they lived in Porta Bello, which is very famous in Virginia history. Later Ruth attended York high School, until she became hired by the pharmacy in downtown Williamsburg.
After Ruth married Carl ìHappyî Stout, they owned and operated Lightfoot market along with their son Carl Pete Stout. While Ruth and Happy lived out next to the Williamsburg airport they were long time members of Walnut Hill Baptist Church where they were involved with its many functions.
After her divorce from Bob Southard, she became engaged to Ron Walters on the 26th of May 1992. She worked at Camp Peary in the security Department, until April of 1996 when she moved to Michigan for a stay of seven years. While there she was employed as a hostess of the country club. Later in 2002 Ruth and Ron moved back to Williamsburg, where they purchased a home in Norge.
Ruth had her first bout with cancer of the lung in 2003 and the fight continued for the next 12 years. She had a total of three lung operations, and a very serious back operation that left her in constant pain for the rest of her life.
She was preceded in death by her mother Corty Hickman Williams, her father William Hickman, stepfather Frank Williams, Brothers Bobby and Johnny Hickman.
She is survived by her beloved companion of 25 years Ron Walters, son Carl D. ì Peteì Stout of Williamsburg, Granddaughter Lindsey Michelle Stout of Toano, Carl Justin Stout and wife Kristin Stout of Henrico Co. VA, and one beloved cousin Lloyd Mears and wife Barbara of Williamsburg and other Cousins, Nieces, and Nephews.
