Robert Wesley Sherman, Jr., 80, of Williamsburg, passed away peacefully Tuesday, December
21, 2021, after a long, brave battle against pancreatic cancer. He was born September 3, 1941, to
the late Robert and Eva (Hoard) Sherman. Bob graduated from Warwick High School in Newport News, VA.  He continued his education at Christopher Newport University and earned a bachelor’s degree in history. Bob had a dedicated career working for over 40 years at the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock, Co. Bob was always a generous and thoughtful man. He enjoyed traveling, spending time with family and friends, and serving God. He was active in the Lions Club, Spirit Works and the Masonic Lodge. He  proudly served his country in the U.S. Marines. Bob was a loving husband, father and grandfather and a great friend to anyone he met. Bob is survived by his wife, Maria Sherman, his daughters Lori Irelan and Kim Sherman, son-in- law Chris Irelan, and his grandchildren Mackenzie, Conner, and Justin. He always had a special place in his heart for his nieces and nephews, Eddie, Scott, Traci, and Tina. He was predeceased by his first wife, Judy Sherman, his stepdaughter, Vanessa Lane-Griffith and youngest daughter, Anna Sherman. Services will be held at a later date at Bruton Parish Church in Williamsburg. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bob’s memory may be made to the Spirit Works Foundation, 5800 Mooretown Rd., Williamsburg, VA. 23188.
