Retired U.S. Navy CWO3 Robert (Bob) Leroy Thompson, age 75, received the greatest miracle of all when he left his earthly home and entered his heavenly home into the presence of our Lord on April 29, 2016. A native of Huntington, WV, he was born February 2, 1941 to the late Roy and Lola Mae Thompson.
After accepting the Lord as a teenager, he was called into the ministry in radio, as well as singing with the Perry Sister Gospel Group from Huntington, WV.
He was stationed in Norfolk, VA, serving 22 years in the Navy with 3 tours of duty in Vietnam, and receiving many awards, including the Navy Achievement Award.
Granddaughter, Natasha Thompson; great-grandson, Makhai Thompson, and mother-in-law, Sarah Powell preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Jean (Powell) Thompson; son, Tony L. Thompson (Barbara); daughter, Pamala J. Woodworth (Jay); step-son, Thomas (Eddie) Kellum III; step-daughter, Amy M. Eveland (Richard); eight grandchildren, Joshua Thompson (Becky), Jennifer Kutasi, Sheena Thompson, Jessica Douglas (Joshua), Alexis Kellum, Lane Kellum, Tyler Eveland, and William (Will) Eveland; three great-grandchildren, Taija Thompson, Jaidyn Thompson and Kailum Thompson; and sister, Linda Thompson Steele (Claude) of Huntington, WV.
A memorial service will be held at 3 pm on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at World Outreach Worship Center officiated by Pastor Russell Evenson, Pastor Bob Collins and Pastor Norman Rush, Jr. Everyone is encouraged to visit with the family at 2 pm prior to the memorial service. Interment will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.
