Paul H. Wood, 70, of Wayside, WV, passed away on January 17th, 2020 after a courageous battle.

Paul was born on April 14th, 1949 to Geneva (Jackie) Cottle and Paul Wood in Hinton, WV. After graduating from Hampton High School in Hampton, VA, Paul made a career in Material Inspection, working for various employers, such as Newport News Shipbuilding and Liebherr.

After retirement, Paul became an active member of Fairview Baptist Church in Forest Hill, WV.

Paul is preceded in death by his parents.  He is survived by his sons Chris Wood and fiancé Debby Sexton of Wayside, WV and Ryan Wood and wife Amanda of Toano, VA; his former wife and close friend, Sharon Gauldin of Emporia, VA; and his three grandchildren, Warren, Hannah and Johnathan.

Paul made many friends throughout his life; however, four in particular were very close to him for many years, Donnie Hixson, Charles Alston, Roger Ramsey and Darrell Ramsey.

Paul was a very caring, hardworking and loving man who will be missed deeply by many.

A visitation will be held at Bucktrout Funeral Home in Williamsburg, VA on February 1st, 2020 at 10:30 AM with a memorial service to follow at 11:30 AM.

    I will always cherish the fond memories I have of the times that Paul and I shared. Especially those surrounding his tenure in The New Life Quartet, with my late husband, Ronnie. There was always a laugh to be found before they took the stage. I will undoubtedly miss those days, and all that he contributed to them.

    I was saddened to learn of Paul’s passing. He was a wonderful man. I use a enjoy hearing him sing at church. I know he is in a better place now. I will be praying for God’s comfort to the family.
