Gifts & Memorial Donations

Patrick Michael Whelan, born August 15, 1946, age 71, originally from Arlington, VA, passed away on Saturday, April 28, 2018. He was at home, in Williamsburg, VA, surrounded by his family. Patrick was an avid reader, historian, loved bicycling, and enjoyed the mountains of Shenandoah. He is survived by his wife, Deborah June Whelan, of 45 years. June 20, 2018 would have marked their 46 years of marriage; in which time Patrick gifted Deborah a yellow rose on the 20th of every month. He is also survived by his two sons, James Michael Whelan and Timothy Joseph Whelan; his two daughters, Colleen Shannon Calhoun and Katherine Anne Whelan; his son-in-law, Casey Brian Calhoun; his grandson, Jack Slade Calhoun; and his older siblings, Nancy Finn and James Whelan.

Family and friends remember Patrick for his sense of humor, kindness, laugh, big smile, and unwavering love for his wife. Patrick was kind, honorable, trusting and brilliant. He was immeasurably caring and loving. Patrick and his wife, Deborah, raised their four children on the foundation of these attributes. His children are honored and proud to carry Patrick’s kindness, goodness, and energy out into the world and give it to those who need it. They will carry his legacy and memory as they walk through life.

The funeral mass will be held at St. Bede Catholic Church in Williamsburg, VA on May 11th at 11:00AM. His wife and children will be honoring him by wearing his favorite color, blue. In place of flowers and gifts, the family kindly asks for Patrick to be added to the prayer list of your home parish or church.
