Michael Joseph Feld, 79, passed away Saturday, November 23, 2013. Michael was born to Dr. John W. and Esther (Crahan) Feld on August 12, 1934, in Oelwein, Iowa. Michael attended Sacred Heart School in Oelwein and graduated with a BA degree in Political Science from the University of Notre Dame in 1956.
Michael pursued a career in politics and government in Iowa and Washington, D.C. In Iowa, he served as a special assistant to Governor Robert Ray. A Reagan Republican, he was a candidate for the U.S. Congress in 1974. In Washington, he served as Administrative Assistant to Rep. John Kyl (R-Iowa) and then Rep Bill Scherle (R-Iowa). He later served in various public affairs and legislative positions at the Environmental Protection Agency, Department of Energy, and the Commission on the Bicentennial of the Constitution.
Always proud of his association with the University of Notre Dame, Michael served on the Board of Notre Dame Club of Washington, D.C. In 1993, he was elected to the National Board of Directors of the Notre Dame Alumni Association.
With his long time respect and love for the Constitution of the United States and the colonial period of American history, he retired to Williamsburg in 2001, where he enjoyed the many historic activities of the region.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years Janice Wogan Feld; his brothers John B. Feld of Cedar Rapids, IA, Dr. James (Betty) Feld of West Des Moines, IA, and a sister Janet Feld of Phoenix, Az. Michael was preceded in death by his sister Mary Agnes Feld.
