Mercedes H. Botta

Gifts & Memorial Donations

Mercedes was born on July 7, 1927 in San Tirso de Abres, in the Asturias region of Spain. Her parents were Herman and Mercedes Garcia. When she was five years old, her family immigrated to the United States, in part to seek greater opportunities and to escape the impending Spanish Civil War.

She was raised in Jersey City, New Jersey. She married Edmond Botta in 1954. They soon settled in Raritan, New Jersey, and raised a family. Mercedes worked for a number of companies, eventually retiring from AT&T.

After retirement, Mercedes and her husband ultimately relocated to Williamsburg, Virginia in 2004. She became a member of St. Martin’s Episcopal Church. Mercedes enjoyed the historical areas of Williamsburg, dining out, opera, audio books, NY Yankees baseball, needlework/crocheting, ceramics, and Real Madrid Soccer.

Mercedes is preceded in death by her sister, Rose, and her husband, Edmond. She is survived by her three children, Mark, Elizabeth, and Paul. Donations may be made, in lieu of flowers, to the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation.
