Melvin L. Schenck of Williamsburg, VA, beloved husband of Karin, passed away Nov. 10th 2012. Mel was born in Howard, PA and at the tender age of 17 joined the US Army. He proudly served his country for 26 yrs. and then served his country further through Civil Service for 18 yrs. While in the service, Mel received numerous awards, some of which are the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal.
He’ll be deeply missed by his loving wife, Karin; his son, William Schenck and his daughters, Kathleen Leemhuis and Evon Biondi and his grandchildren, Brian and Sarah Leemhuis.
Mel loved classical music, especially a good waltz. He was blessed to have found his soul mate and the two of them created a wonderful life. He had an uncanny gift of being able to connect with animals and was most at home in his beloved backyard feeding the birds. He was a man of few words, but he made an impact. He loved his children. He loved nature and derived such pleasure in sitting on his deck under the awning during a rainstorm; listening as the rain came down. Mel and Karin’s love and friendship grew with every season that passed. His friends feel the loss too; yet Mel can take comfort in knowing they will watch over Karin. Mel…we miss you so. Be at peace and know you are very loved.
The family will receive friends and loved ones on Thursday Nov. 15th, starting at 10:30 a.m. at Bucktrout Funeral Home in Williamsburg and the graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m. at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk.
