Maude Lees Mettler

Maude Lees Mettler of Williamsburg passed away peacefully at home Friday September 28, 2018 surrounded by her family. Born December 3, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Christopher Wallace Lees and Gertrude Winnifred Lees. Maude was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to all that she knew. She grew up in Saint Clair Shores, Michigan and lived in Oak Park, Michigan for several years prior to moving to Williamsburg with her family in 1974.

She was always active in the communities she lived in, whether it was a church activity, family gatherings, or at the Chickahominy House where she worked as assistant manager for 17 years. She enjoyed cooking, reading, gardening, her cats and spending time with her family at their summer home at Dorcas Bay Ontario Canada. She was a member of Bruton Parish Episcopal Church.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband, William A. Mettler, having a life of love and marriage for 65 years; her children, Doug Mettler and his wife Lynne of Williamsburg, Virginia; Nancy Galvin and her husband Jim of St. Mary’s, Georgia, David Mettler and his wife Susan of New Kent County, Virginia; grandchildren, Christopher Mettler, Cameron Mettler Will Berry, Becky Berry and Meaghan Galvin; great-grandchildren, Collin Galvin, Julie Cruz, Sean Berry, and Calvin Berry.

A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday October 13, 2018 at Bruton Parish Church 201 Duke of Gloucester Street Williamsburg, VA 23185 The Revd. Christopher L. Epperson, Rector officiating. After the service, the family will receive friends on Saturday, October 13, 2018 from 3 to 4:30 pm at the Bruton Parish Church – Parish House 331 Duke of Gloucester Street. Interment will be private on Sunday October 14, 2018 in the Bruton Parish Church Courtyard.
