Mary Jane Fenn, 87, of Williamsburg, VA, passed away at home in Kingsmill on July 31, 2020. Mary Jane was born to Nels Jacob (Jack) Roos and Jane Casson Roos on October 26, 1932.
Mary Jane was preceded in passing by her husband and her eldest daughter, Pamela Pomory.
She is survived by her daughters Susan Fenn Bemus of Fairfield, CT, and Jennifer Doherty of West Haven, CT, and by her grandchildren Andrew and Dana Polomski, Sean and Colin Pomory, and Molly and Jack Doherty.
After growing up in Roslyn Estates, NY, she graduated as president of her class from Sweet Briar College and attended the Columbia University MFA Theatre Program. Mary Jane was married to Richard (Dick) W. Fenn in 1955. They raised their family in Huntington and Shelter Island, NY, before moving to Williamsburg, VA, in 1992.
Mary Jane was a past member of the Shelter Island Yacht Club and past commodore of the Kingsmill Yacht Club. In addition to her love of sailing and cruising the eastern seaboard, Mary Jane had been active in community theater, volunteered for many years at Williamsburg Sentara Hospital, and was a long-standing lector at St. Bede Catholic Church in Williamsburg. She loved to travel, go to the beach, read, and create intricate counted cross-stitch pieces. Mostly, she loved spending time with family and friends who will remember her as a passionate and entertaining storyteller with an infectious laugh and enthusiastic attitude.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, July 30, at the Bucktrout of Williamsburg Funeral Home. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at St. Bede Catholic Church on Saturday, July 31, at 11:00, with Monsignor Timothy Keeney officiating. Interment will be private at Our Lady of the Isle Cemetery, Shelter Island, NY.
