Louis B. Krebs

Louis B. Krebs Jr. (Lou), of Williamsburg, Virginia, passed away on November 29, 2020 at the age of 93.

Louis, or Lou as he was known to his friends, was born to parents Louis and Florence Krebs (nee Kurtz) on January 21, 1927 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, but grew up in El Paso, Texas, as the eldest of five. With a war on, he took a clerical job at the Pentagon in Arlington, VA after graduating high school in January 1944.  Drafted in 1945, the war ended before Lou was shipped out, but, having stayed in the Army reserves, he spent a year in Korea when his unit was called up. In the Army, Lou worked supply, serving troops along the front lines. He returned to the Pentagon where he completed a career in accounting, retiring about 1982, and likewise remained part of the Army reserves until retiring from them in the 1980’s as a warrant officer IV.

In the Washington area, Lou met Judy Minke, and Lou and Judy were married at the Church of St. Peter and Paul on April 23, 1955.  Together they raised four children, Paul the oldest, twins Mitch and Robert (Bob) and finally a girl, Angela.  Lou and Judy were married 20 years before they parted, and not long after Louis formed a partnership and later a marriage with Bertha (Bert) Plummer Krebs.  Lou and Bert remained together until she passed away September 8^th of this year. Throughout his first marriage, Lou lived in Maryland in the Washington, D.C. area, first in Oxen Hill, then Bowie for 10 years, and finally Upper Marlboro.  After his separation from Judy, Lou relocated to Northern Virginia in 1975 and brought his twin sons over to stay with him shortly thereafter. In retirement in the early 80’s, Lou and Bert resettled in Williamsburg, VA home, albeit in a plethora of different houses.  Lou always remained close to his two stepchildren, Susan and Bob Plummer

Lou will be remembered for his love of the outdoors, and spent many hours hiking and camping with his children in the Appalachian Mountains when they were young.  Lou always enjoyed card games, jigsaw puzzles and chess, and was an avid reader evidenced by the books which lined many walls in his home. When first retired he was very active in volunteer work, especially at a local art gallery. Lou enjoyed eating out, but not fine dining. He was quiet, especially in group settings, but always friendly and welcoming. When he traveled, he drove, even across the country, and preferred visiting nature or family in quiet settings.

Louis is survived by his children Paul Krebs (Wendy), Mitchell Krebs (Barbara), Robert Krebs (Angel), Angela Orlandella (Ralph), stepson Robert Plummer (Danette) and stepdaughter Susan Plummer, grandchildren Amy, Katrina, Angela Colette, Natalie, Travis, Leo, Jake, Christopher and Nicholas, great-grandchildren Harper, Stella and Emily, his younger siblings David and Larry, and a large number of nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, and more.  Lou was predeceased by his parents Louis and Florence, his brother Robert, his sister Nancy, and his wife Bert.

No memorial service is planned at this time.  Lou’s ashes will be spread along the Appalachian Trail.
