Lois Marilyn Blaha

Gifts & Memorial Donations

Lois Blaha passed away peacefully on January 5. Lois was born in San Rafael, California in 1927. She grew up in Wahiawa, on the Hawaiian island of Oahu, where her parents owned an office supply store.

On December 7, 1941, Lois watched from her home while Pearl Harbor was attacked. Fearing an invasion of Hawaii, her parents sent her to California, where she attended high school and Stanford University, finally earning an associate degree at Armstrong Business College. She returned to Hawaii and worked as an executive assistant for the Dole Pineapple Company.

In 1953, Lois married then-Lieutenant Charles L. Blaha of the U.S. Coast Guard. Together, they traveled to assignments in New York, Connecticut, California, Alaska, Washington DC, and Yorktown, Virginia before retiring to Williamsburg.

Lois’s Christian faith was the bedrock of her life, and she lived it for all to see.

Lois and her husband Charles have three children and six grandchildren.

Lois’s family is deeply grateful for the love and care of the Williamsburg Landing staff throughout her 13 years of residence there.

A memorial service will be held at Woodhaven Hall at Williamsburg Landing on Friday, January 15 at 2:30pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the US Coast Guard Academy Alumni Association. Online donations can be made through the Association website, www.cgaalumni.org. Donations by mail can be addressed to US Coast Guard Academy Alumni Association, 47 Mohegan Ave, New London, CT 06320. Donations made in Lois Blaha’s name will be directed to the Association’s Leadership and Management Fund.

Brenda J. Hayes (Brenda J. Faulkner at the time) says:
I worked at the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve Training Center for many years. Capt and Mrs. Blaha were one of my favorite Commanding Officer while I was there. They were both so nice and caring of the troops and civilian employees on the base.

    Nancy Pierce says:
I met Lois at Woodhaven where she had an apartment. I brought my dog in to see the residents as part of a dog therapy program and she fell in love with BJ. Lois had Boston Terriers when she lived in Hawaii. We shared doggie stories and I loved hearing all about her life experiences. Lois was a neat lady and has a special place in heaven now.

    James Loy says:
My wife Kay and I have known Lois since the mid-seventies when I worked for CAPT Blaha at the Training Center in Yorktown. He became a very special mentor of mine from whom I learned way too much to itemize here. Lois was the "first lady" of the Training Center and set a wonderful example for all the families at the command. I remember a very special opportunity I had to be involved in helping Lois meet the request of CAPT B regarding spreading his ashes. I was so glad to be able to ease her burden just a little during those trying days. We will all miss her dearly.
