Retired Lieutenant Colonel Lloyd Earl Bell, a long-time resident of Williamsburg, passed away April 21, 2013 after his last brave, but short battle.
Born in Detroit nearly 86 years ago, he found his true love in San Antonio in 1949. He married Meta Vee McGahey that very year. He fathered four children; Lynn E. Bell (deceased); William “Bill” Bell; Christine Celeste Bell Shaw; and Katherine Bell Riggs. He was very proud of all ten grandchildren and his favorite great grandchild. He was devoted to his family. Lloyd was also devoted to serving his country, first as a very young marine in World War II and then he enjoyed a long career as a fighter pilot in the Air Force. Although he received many medals and commendations, he was most proud of his two Purple Heart medals. Finally, he was devoted to his second career at Colonial Williamsburg, helping to make CW a beautiful place for visitors and residents.
By request funeral arrangements are private. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to express sympathies are encouraged to consider a contribution to Hospice House and Support Care of Williamsburg, 4445 Powhatan Parkway, Williamsburg, 23188 or www.williamsburghospice.org
