Williamsburg- Lelia Jones “Snookie” Beier, age 86, departed this life Tuesday, March 10, 2015, to join her beloved family in her eternal home in Heaven. She was born in old “Warwick County”, Denbigh, to Madeline and Donnie Jones on November 6, 1928. Snookie was preceded in death by her husband John P. Beier and son John “Buster” Beier.

Snookie graduated from Warwick High School in 1947, and attended Charles Beauty School in 1948. Alongside her mother, they owned and operated Madeline Beauty Shop in Denbigh, until moving to Williamsburg in 1970. Snookie continued to work as a hairdresser in her home shop until her mother’s health declined. She then devoted her time to care for her mother until her death in 1990.

Mrs. Beier was a member of Smith Memorial Baptist Church. She participated in the Ladies Fellowship and Sunday School Class, Women’s Missionary Union, and enjoyed spending time with her friends in the “Fun Bunch” senior group. She was an avid gardener, member of the Norge Community Club, and volunteered with Meals on Wheels and R.S.V.P., Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, for many years.

She is survived by her son, Thomas Beier, and his wife, Donna, of Newport News; Daughter-in-Law, Judy Beier, of Barboursville; three grandchildren, Daniel Beier, Drew Beier, and Amanda Bishop; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m, Wednesday March 18, 2015, at Smith Memorial Baptisit Church, with a reception to follow. Burial will take place at Peninsula Memorial Park at 2:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Smith Memorial Baptist Church, 6515 Richmond Road, Williamsburg, VA 23188; or the Bruton Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 382, Toano, VA 23168.
