Kenneth Ray Pickin, 66, of Williamsburg, passed away on May 30, 2017.

Kenny was a native of Poquoson and resided in Williamsburg for 32 years.

He was an avid sportsman who loved to hunt and fish.   He was active in many organizations  over the years. He was the past president of the Central Point, Alps, Tignor Hunt Club and current board member. He served for 22 years as the president of Virginia Peninsula Sportsman’s Association and sat on the board of The National Redbone Coonhound Association.  Kenny retired from Dominion Power after serving as trasportation supervisor in Hampton.ĺ

Kenny leaves behind his loving wife of 41 years, Dale Pickin; son, Charles Benjamin Pickin and his wife Becky of Harrisonburg; grandchildren, Eleanor Ruth Pickin and Charlotte Irene Pickin; and brother, Jimmy Pickin and wife Bette of Duluth,Ga.

A visitation will be held on Monday, June 5, 2017 at 12:00 PM at Bucktrout Funeral Home, with a service to follow at 1:00 PM. Burial will take place at Cedar Grove Cemetery.  A memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 6 at 10:00 AM at Salem Baptist Church, Sparta, Virginia.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hunters for the Hungry, 1108 Sedalia School Rd, Big Island, VA 24526.

    I always admired Ken's passion for the outdoors, and his vigor in getting others to share that passion, especially young people. As a media person, Ken was always very helpful to me in covering the history Big Game Show, and I will always remember that and be thankful for it. His dedication to Hunters for the Hungry caused people to dig deeper into their pocket to support this worthy mission.

    My deepest sympathy to Dale, Ben, and all the family. Kenny was a great, faithful, and very dear life-long friend who will be truly missed. Like his family I miss Kenny already, but will always cherish and remember all the childhood memories and experiences I had with Kenny growing up together in Poquoson - playing together when young, going to school together, going to church together, hanging out together as teenagers, and always talking about hunting. Kenny has always been a friend that you could depend on when needed. Like stressed in the movie "Stand by Me" "There is much truth to the saying that there are no friends better than your childhood friends". Dale, as Kenny I love hunting and will be just 5 minutes away every weekend during hunting season and Poquoson is really not too far. Please don't hesitate to call if there is anything my nephew - Lonnie- and I can do for you. You have my number! Love Butchie
