Kathleen Mary Pickering

Kathleen Mary Wilkinson Pickering passed away peacefully on March 28, 2024 in Williamsburg, VA. She was born in the fall of 1937 to Herbert and Jennie Wilkinson. She had an adventurous life that carried her to Jamaica as a child, back to England, and then to Canada and eventually Virginia.

She is pre-deceased by her husband Trevor Pickering and her grandson Alex Rosche.  She is survived by her three daughters Debora Rosche (Philip), Julie Martin (Stephen), and Nancy Wigley (Steven); and her grandsons Travis Rosche, Christopher Newman and Zac Newman.

Kathy was a tenacious and spirited woman, determined to do things her own way. She and Trevor met and married in England in 1958. Baby Debora arrived in 1959 and the young family soon moved across the ocean to Canada.  Daughter Julie was born in Edmonton, Alberta and Nancy in Montreal, Quebec.

The family moved to Virginia in 1967. Eventually settling in Williamsburg, Kathy took a job at the Colonial Williamsburg Lodge. She was quickly promoted from Secretary to Conference Service Manager. She then became the Director of Special Events for Colonial Williamsburg, one of the first female directors. She excelled at her job, meeting world-wide dignitaries, and planning their events in Williamsburg.

Retirement led Kathy and Trevor to Marco Island FL where they entertained many guests and family. They also traveled extensively, enjoying many other countries. They were nomads at heart.

2001 brought them back to Williamsburg where Trevor passed shortly after. Kathy immersed herself in volunteer work: Volunteer coordinator for the Bruton Parish gift shop, League of Women Voters, the Port Anne Board, and Meals on Wheels.

Kathy is still remembered as a woman who broke glass ceilings and made her own path. All while wearing her signature Pendleton suit, red lipstick, and 3-inch heels.

In honor of Kathy, please consider a donation to Child Development Resources (cdr.org) or the Heritage Humane Society (heritagehumane.org)

The family would like to thank the staff at Spring Arbor and Bristol Hospice for their wonderful care and compassion.

A memorial service and celebration of life will be held Monday, April 1 at 2:00 PM at Bucktrout Funeral Home in Williamsburg, VA.

Rest in Peace Mummy. Now go fly high in that balloon with Trevor by your side.
