Gifts & Memorial Donations

John Wesley “Wes” Tawney Jr, 54, a native of Williamsburg, died suddenly at his home October 10, 2016. Born September 30, 1962 in Hampton, Virginia to his parents, the late John Wesley, Sr. and  mother, Judy Tawney of Toano.  Wes was employed by Anheuser Busch and just one-year shy of his retirement.  Wes had an extreme passion for hunting, fishing, and many trips to Hatteras which often included his children.  Most people who knew him will forever remember his contagious laugh, his great sense of humor, as well as a big heart and commitment to helping his friends.  Wes was a devoted Denver Broncos fan, he appreciated good classic rock, cooking, many cold beers, the “Beast” Ford F-150, and his beloved jeep.  But above all, he loved his children the most.  Wes will be deeply missed, but always remembered!  On Wes’s  behalf, we know he would want everyone to smile, remember the good times, and have a cold one! In addition to his mother, he leaves behind to cherish the memory, two children, Brittney and Ryan Tawney; mother, Sandy Tawney; brother, Eric Tawney; sisters,  Julie Steele and Angie Tawney; nephew, Justin Monroe; nieces, Madison and Olivia Steele; along with a host of extended family and friends.  The family will receive friends Monday, October 17, 2016 from 6 pm – 7:30 pm at Bucktrout Funeral Home, 4124 Ironbound Bound, Williamsburg, VA 23188; where a Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at 5 pm. Interment will be private.  Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to:  St. Jude Children’s Hospital www.stjude.org.

The times we crossed paths were always a blast. I will miss not being able to see you again. I hope God is an avid fisherman, hunter, digger and loves to listen to Aerosmith. If not he better start! Rest in peace my old friend.

Loss of a smile for his family and community. I only had a brief encounter with Wes at the Jamestown Rite Aid. Mike a cashier said "Welcome to Rite Aid". Wes' responded "Oh this isn't Toy's r Us?" Later we traded humor with Mike. The next week I asked Mike "How is that guy who likes to kid around?" Mike responded "He passed away last week." I, Mike and another employee agreed "The world needs more Wes' humor to make the life we live in have a smile." I'm thankful for that brief encounter and saddened by Wes' passing.
