“Captain” John J. Smith, 91, of Williamsburg, passed away on December 30, 2017.

John was a World War II veteran, serving two years in the United States Navy on an LST, in the Pacific. After serving in the military he went on to work his way up to manager at the Brooklyn Union Gas Company. John loved playing a good game of golf.

John is preceded in death by his wife, Helene V. Smith and sister, Gertrude Allen. He is survived by his son, Michael Mele; daughter Helene Biondi; daughter-in-law, Betty Lum-Mele; son-in-law, Michael Biondi; brother, James Smith; grandchildren, Elisabeth Biondi, Matthew Michael Biondi, Matthew Ross Mele, and Jessica Hordge.

A memorial service will be held at St. Bede Catholic Church on January 20, 2018 at 12:00pm with interment following at the columbarium.
