Gifts & Memorial Donations

In the city of Williamsburg, Va. where she lived most of her life, Joan Marie Masengale died on December 3rd, 2022 in her 90th year.

Joan was the beloved wife of Clyde Masengale and they enjoyed 68 years of marriage. She is also survived by her two sons: Michael and his wife Marsha Masengale of Chesapeake, Va. and Mark and his wife Candace Masengale of Williamsburg, Va., granddaughters Lauren and her husband Adam Kinne of Smithfield, NC and Charlotte Masengale of Williamsburg Va. and one great granddaughter, Ava Kinne of Smithfield, NC. She is also survived by one brother Walter Moran and one sister Ruth Donges, both of Florida.

Joan was born on July 22,1932 in Riverhead NY. She met her future husband, Clyde in 1952 while he was stationed nearby at Suffolk County Air Force Base and they were married in 1954. With two young boys in tow, the family relocated to Williamsburg, Va. in 1966 as Clyde started a new career with the Dept. of Defense.

Joan and Clyde loved to travel to see their families in both New York and Tennessee and to just get away. She loved feeling the power of an airplane taking off on her next adventure. Often, she would call family meetings to discuss potential new trips and to generate excitement with the family. She helped plan two memorable family cruises and made sure everyone was involved. But often, Joan and Clyde would just hop in the car and take off and enjoy every minute of it.

Joan was a member of the Williamsburg Lady Lions Auxiliary for many years and formed lifelong friendships with many during her service.

Joan lived a full life as a wonderful wife, mother and homemaker and also enjoyed her work at Jamestown Island. She loved music, Broadway shows, entertaining family and friends and dining with her family. She was an avid reader. She didn’t love to cook but she did, kept an immaculate house and made sure her boys stayed involved with the community. She attended their sporting events and consistently rooted for her beloved NY Yankees.

Most of all she loved her family and instilled in her sons and grandchildren the strong values that have served them well.

She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.

Upon her request, there will be no services at this time. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be sent to the Williamsburg Lions Club, PO Box 753, Williamsburg, VA 23187.
