Jean Ellen Siiberg, nursing pioneer, passed away from this life on April 14, 2023 after 92 years of service to others.
She leaves a daughter, Donna Conlan and grandson, Timothy Conlan who mourn the loss of the best mother and grandmother in the world to them; but celebrate her remarkable life.
Jean was born in South Bend, Indiana, on July 15, 1930, and was a lifetime Notre Dame and Studebaker fan. In the 1950’s as a young mother, she was among the earliest to receive a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing and Phi Betta Kappa status which she put to good use. Venturing into many facets of the nursing profession from hospital OR, visiting nurse service, teaching OBGYN to nurses, running a home healthcare agency, inaugurating among other services, a senior bus program as director of the office on aging in Somerset County, New Jersey, and joining INA the first group of rehab nurses covering three states.
She was always there, even in retirement to help friends and neighbors with Dr. visits or blood pressure monitoring. A true born nurse, she cared for her husband, Hemming, long term with help from Sentara Hospice and Hospice House.
The family wants to thank, once again, the nursing professionals at Sentara Hospice services for their help when Jean needed them.
A private family remembrance will be celebrated, and donations may be made to Hospice House, a very deserving local resource.
Bucktrout Funeral Home is assisting the family.
