Gifts & Memorial Donations

Jane Prowant, 81, of Williamsburg, VA, passed away on August 27, 2023, after a battle with dementia/Alzheimer’s. Jane was a 1960 graduate of York High School, and worked in the Civil Service field for over 30 years.

Jane is predeceased by her parents, Richard (Dick) Phippins & Vera Carr Phippins, and by her brother, John (Johnny) Phippins.

She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Dale Prowant, Jr., of Williamsburg, VA; daughters, Dicksie Ann Davis (Bill) of Newport News, VA, Becky Edwards of Williamsburg, VA, and “adopted” daughter, Mel Caporella, of The Villages, FL; grandchildren, Jennifer Henderson (Nick) of Hampton, VA and William Davis, Jr. of Newport News, VA; and great-grandsons, Colton Hudgins and Caleb Henderson, both of Hampton, VA; half-sister, Marjorie “Bebe” Phippins Cohen of Seville, FL and half-brother, Richard Dwayne Phippins of Bunnell, FL She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Vickie Phippins of Minot, ND, Joanne Taylor of Richmond, VA, Gail Griffin of Williamsburg, VA, Debbie Whisenant (Pete) of Lanexa, VA and Dottie Prowant (Robert) of Williamsburg, VA as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Upon her retirement, Jane stayed busy by happily joining her husband on his locksmith calls (Pro Locksmithing), and by volunteering with York County Fire Dept (Hubbard Lane), and at one of their favorite restaurants, Tequila Rose (Williamsburg). She also discovered her love and talent for making many types of crafts, and participated in many local craft shows. She loved making baby blankets for the new additions to her family and for expecting friends, as well as Christmas ornaments and gifts for family and friends. She also tried her hand at doll repair by taking the classes and then opening Jane’s Doll Clinic of Williamsburg.

Upon Dale’s retirement, he and Jane enjoyed many trips and adventures whether in their RV, or by boat, plane or car. From “glamping” at Thousand Trails (Gloucester, VA), cruising on a Carnival cruise, sight-seeing in Mexico and Canada, touring Jamaica, or visiting far-away relatives, Jane treasured making those memories.

She loved her canine pets, Rocky, Rowdy & Rufus, all who predeceased her, and supported the SPCA whenever she could.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Bucktrout Funeral Home, Williamsburg, VA. Jane’s wishes were that no one have to go out and buy “funeral” clothes. She wanted everyone to be casual and comfortable, so please wear whatever makes you comfortable. Mom’s suggestion would be jeans/shorts, t-shirt, and tennis shoes/flip flops!

The family would like to thank Dominion Village at Williamsburg, Sentara Hospice Williamsburg and Hospice House of Williamsburg for the care and comfort they provided for mom. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to either of these organizations, to the SPCA or to the Alzheimer’s Association.

    Ann Davis says:
Thank you all who have shared a memory about Mom. She was always young at heart & had a sense of humor that sometimes caught us by surprise. As adults, we girls had some great times with mom. Taking long rides, stopping at DQ and sometimes a roadside country store were some of things she looked forward to. Those are the memories and qualities of mom that I will remember the most. Love you, mom.

    Mel says:
What a Great Soul she was. She was my 2nd Mom we would sit and talk and laugh for hours just me and her we would take trips to the store together she loved getting out and about. We talked about the good and the bad. Anytime she called with a problem, washer don't work, toilet broken, light don't come on, I heard something in the attic. I would go over and help a girl out. I would do anything in the world for that woman. RIP MOMMA #2
