Jane DeBord

Jane P. DeBord, age 90, passed away on Friday, August 19, 2022 after a prolonged illness.

She was predeceased by her husband, R. E. DeBord, M.D., and her parents, George W. and Martha P. Porter, and her grandson, Jacob P. DeBord. Her children, Martha H. DeBord, Nancy V. DeBord, Emily J. DeBord, M.D.  (Phil Stevenson), Robert E. DeBord, Jr. and David P. DeBord (Stephanie), as well as her twin brother, George W. Porter, M.D. (Marie) survive her. Jane’s grandchildren include E. Taylor Overton, III; Emily C., Sarah S., Hannah E., and Naomi C. Russell; Benjamin P. DeBord; S. Coulter and Aimee H. DeBord; and Madison A. and Lillian A. DeBord. Jane has 5 great-grandchildren, and extended family on both sides that include many cousins, nieces and nephews.

After graduation in 1950 from John Marshall High School in Richmond, Jane completed nursing school at Johnston Willis. She met and married Edd DeBord, moving to Williamsburg in 1954 where she raised her family and lived for the rest of her life. Jane enjoyed bowling, volunteering at FISH and the Pines, line-dancing, and vacationing in Nags Head. She was a member of Williamsburg United Methodist Church, and especially enjoyed old hymns that she learned in childhood when attending her parents’ churches.

Jane supported and attended her children’s – and grandchildren’s – activities from choir and piano lessons to science fairs, homework and so many sports: swimming, diving, baseball, field hockey, bowling, volleyball and adult softball. She enjoyed hikes through the woods as much as her children and their friends. All of the Matoaka Ct. neighborhood children knew her whistle and would all come home from Williamsburg Community Pool to find out whose parents wanted them home.

We love you Mom.

A celebration of Jane’s life will be held Friday September 16, 2pm, at Williamsburg United Methodist Church.
