James Robert ìJim Bobî Smith passed away unexpectedly on the night of November 29th, 2014. He was born in Williamsburg, VA on November 7, 1980 and lived most of his life in Toano, VA. He attended Lafayette High School and New River Community College in Radford, VA.
Coming from a family of firefighters, Jim Bob found his calling in life when he served as a volunteer at James City County ñ Bruton fire station. After working at Colonial Williamsburg Foundation as a military interpreter at the Magazine, he then attended the Tidewater Regional Fire Academy. He worked at Williamsburg Fire Department as a firefighter/paramedic. He also worked at Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department where he was employed at the time of his death. He served these communities by helping others to save lives and property.
Jim Bob was a talented musician and singer. He was a member of the Colonial Williamsburg Fife and Drum Corp for 8 years. One of his favorite things was to play music with his friends. He also loved time spent on the Chickahominy River. Jim Bob had a wide circle of friends who enjoyed his talent, humor, and generous spirit.
He was predeceased by his grandparents James and Jo Smith and Robert Taylor. He is survived by his parents Keith and Lucy Smith, his grandmother Ann Taylor, his aunts and uncles Lanny and Betty Smith, Warren and Kathy Smith, Kim and Gordon Ivey, Laurie and Andy Burmeister, a large extended family, and many dear friends.
A memorial service will be held on Friday December 5th at 6:30pm at Bucktrout Funeral Home, 4124 Ironbound Rd., Williamsburg, VA 23188. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to James City County ñ Bruton Fire Station, Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department in Gloucester, VA, or to your favorite charity.
