Jackie “Jack” Will Benson departed this life on August 13, 2022. He was born to the late Jack Kermit Benson and Anna Belle Clark Benson on December 9, 1936. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Ryan Benson. Jack loved the Lord, his family, and music. He was born and raised in Paducah, KY, where he grew up in the church, worked in his parents’ food store, and played trumpet in his high school’s band. After graduation, he went to Georgia Tech in Atlanta. He met Betty Griffin, a nursing school student, while earning his degree in chemical engineering. Two years later they married and then shared another 62 years together. Throughout his life, Jack loved to sing. His beautiful tenor voice was heard in churches everywhere he lived. He was a song leader in several churches and he served as a song leader and deacon at the Hermitage Road Church of Christ in Richmond, VA. Precious memories of Jack will be kept by his loving and devoted wife, Betty Benson of Williamsburg, VA; three sons, Chris Benson of Charles City, VA, David Benson (Anthony) of Williamsburg, VA, and Tony Benson of Birmingham, AL; three grandchildren, Daniel Benson, Robyn Gundlach, and Giovanni DeRosa-Benson; two sisters, Judy Warren (Don) and Joan Jones (Mel); and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, other relatives, and friends. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 10, 2022, at the Williamsburg Church of Christ, 227 Merrimac Trail.
