Hazel Marie Teague Sawyer, 88, of Williamsburg, passed away Sunday, December 22, 2013 at Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center. Hazel worked at the Navel Mine Depot as a switchboard operator for 13 years, then became a homemaker, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Norman R. Sawyer; parents, James A. and Orna Hazel Cook Teague, brothers; James, John, Kenneth and Dewey Teague, sisters; Ruth Lawrence and Margaret Bryant; niece Cecelia Huffman; and nephew Richard Lawrence.

Hazel is survived by her sons; Randy Sawyer, of Williamsburg and Mark (Wanda) Sawyer, of Spring Hill, TN; grandchildren; Matt (Sharon) Sawyer and Ben (Jana) Sawyer, of Williamsburg; Daniel (Lesley) Sawyer and Carrie Sawyer, of Spring Hill, TN; great grandchildren; Blake and Caden Sawyer, Jackson and Cole Sawyer, all of Williamsburg, McKinley Sawyer, of Spring Hill TN, sister in law; Edna (Skinny) Teague, of Poquoson; brother in laws; Lewis Sawyer, Jr., of Portsmouth and Vern Williamson, of San Diego, CA and many nieces and nephews. Special neighbor Kate and special caregivers Rosa, Monique, Justina and Nena.

The family will receive friends from 6-8pm Friday, December 27th at Bucktrout Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 11:00am on Saturday, December 28th at the funeral home, with burial to follow in Williamsburg Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews.

The family request that memorial contributions be made to the James City Bruton Volunteer Fire Department, 3135 Forge Road, Toano, VA 23168.
