Gordon Dick McLean went to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, October 11th, 2015 in Williamsburg, VA. He was born on October 9th, 1927 in Chorleywood, Hertfordshire, England to Robert McLean and Catherine Dick McLean. He was preceded in death by brothers, Ronald McLean (Margaret) and Graeme McLean (Rosemary).

He is survived by his loving wife, Catherine Jo Ellis Pruitt McLean, as well as his children, Catherine McLean Petee (Dennis), Gordon McLean, Jr. (Ed), Randy McLean (Angela), Michael McLean (Stephanie), Heather McLean (Ian), David Pruitt (Mary Ann), Steve Pruitt (Pam) and grandchildren, Stephanie Asia, Sonya, Shaun, Michael Owen, Hannah Rose, Lizzie, Ben, Mary Catherine, Anna, Ellie, five great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and countless friends and colleagues.

Gordon served as a messenger for the Air Raid Wardens’ Service as a teenager and three years in the Royal Navy during World War II. He was employed by The Royal Insurance, Ltd of London, which brought him to the United States in 1949, where he became a naturalized citizen in 1980. He retired from The Royal in 1976 to move to Richmond, VA in order to establish the Virginia Reciprocal Group, where he served as President & CEO until 1995. Gordon and Cathy had moved to Williamsburg, VA in 1992, then to Naples, FL for retirement in 1995 and back to Williamsburg in 2013.

He dedicated his life to Church and service, including as a member of the Association of Chartered Insurance (Institute of London), Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter, and as Senior Warden to both All Saints Church (Richmond) and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church (Naples). He was also a founding member of the Society of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, and found great joy in volunteering as a reader and mentor to elementary students in Virginia and Florida.

The memorial service will be held at Bruton Parish Episcopal Church on November 6th at 11am, followed by a reception at the Parish House. Arrangements are handled by Bucktrout Funeral Home in Williamsburg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bruton Parish Church House, P.O.
