Gifts & Memorial Donations

Gerda Haferkamp, a world traveler, avid knitter, bird lover, and dedicated volunteer, has taken her final flight on October 21, 2023, in Williamsburg, VA. She was born on November 14, 1936, in Poland, and at the time of her passing, she was 86 years old.

Gerda’s adventurous spirit led her to explore six continents, immersing herself in different cultures and creating memories that will be cherished forever. When she wasn’t jet-setting across the globe, she could be found knitting away, crafting beautiful creations with her skilled hands. Hummingbirds also held a special place in Gerda’s heart, and she would spend hours observing and admiring their graceful flights.

In addition to her passions, Gerda dedicated her time as a volunteer at Sentara Hospital, touching the lives of those in need with her compassionate nature. Her selflessness and caring nature made an indelible impression on all those with whom she came into contact.

Gerda is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Hermann Haferkamp. Together, they created a lifetime of memories filled with love and laughter. She also leaves behind her daughters, Barbara Ingliss (Chris) and Cornelia Haferkamp, who will forever cherish their mother’s unwavering love and support. Gerda’s brother, Juergen Heinrich, and granddaughter, Jennifer Ingliss, also mourn her loss deeply.

Services to celebrate Gerda’s remarkable life will be held on November 4, 2023, at 10:00am at Bucktrout Funeral Home located at 4124 Ironbound Road in Williamsburg, VA. Friends and family are invited to join together to honor Gerda, sharing stories and memories that capture her vibrant spirit and zest for life.

Gerda Haferkamp will be remembered as a woman who embraced adventure, expressed creativity through knitting, spread kindness through volunteering, and brought joy to all those around her. Her legacy will forever live on in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known her.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Gerda’s name to Hospice House of Williamsburg.

Barb and Chris, please accept our deepest condolences. Both of us have lost both parents, so take a small amount of comfort in knowing that the pain and loss you're feeling will fade with time, but your wonderful and cherished memories never will. --Luz and Victor
