Gifts & Memorial Donations

Our familyís angel here on earth has been called home to rest. Frances Mae Sweat, daughter, sister, friend, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away Monday Aug. 19, 2013.

Born April 5, 1929 in North Carolina she spent most of her years in Virginia. As a young woman working at her motherís restaurant in Norfolk she met and married Raymond Sweat. Raymond and Frances traveled from Carolina to Okinawa, back to Virginia, on to Panama and back again. By the end of 1959 they had 4 children born in 3 different states and 1 in another country. They chose what was then a sleepy little town known as Williamsburg to build their lives after their Army years. They remained dedicated to each other for their entire lives.

Frances was raised in the church and maintained her strong belief in the Lord throughout her life. She loved her church, her family, friends, life and nearly everyone she met. A soul full of love and forgiveness she was dear to the hearts of everyone that knew her. She spent nearly 24 years as a school bus driver where her kindness left lifelong impressions on hundreds of her ìKids.î Many still stop us in town to ask about Mrs. Sweat.

Frances was predeceased by her husband Raymond Sweat, her sons Robert Sweat and Raymond (Buddy) Sweat. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter & caretaker Tammy Sweat, her son Phillip and wife Pam, grandchildren Wendy, Sherry, Corey, Chad, Todd, Christopher, Jessica, Jennifer, and nine great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Thursday, at Bucktrout Funeral Home from 6-8 pm. A celebration of life will be held Friday at Grace Baptist Church at 1:00 pm with burial following at Williamsburg Memorial Park

    Nancy Dutro says:
Frances Sweat was a loyal supporter of Magruder School and a good friend to the children, teachers and staff. Thirty years ago, when there was talk of closing the school and selling the property for commercial use, she was one of the first to speak out publicly against that idea. Instead, a new school was built on the site. She loved the children who rode her bus and they loved her, too. I am proud to call her my friend.
