    Bryan Godfrey says:
As a grandson of Mrs. Shorter's first cousin, the late Ella Perrow Pearson Overstreet of Newport News, and having seen her several times between 1996 and 2015 and talked to her on the phone as well, I give my condolences to her family. I am the family genealogist, and I found Mrs. Shorter to be a very delightful person who aged gracefully, as was Mr. Shorter. She and my maternal grandmother were named for their mutual maternal grandmother, Ella Tunstall Walker Perrow, although Mrs. Shorter went by Louise (and the name continues with my niece Ella). Now only 2 of the 28 grandchildren of W. Adolphus and Ella Walker Perrow remain. I started out in 1994 intending to write a small booklet on our family, but within a few years, after I started using genealogy software and finding so much, and then started a genealogy website, I realized a book was impractical, so most of what I shared was electronically. I feel bad because Mrs. Shorter and most in her generation lacked Internet, so I was unable to share much with them because the amount of pages would be astronomical. I can make it up to her by at least offering to share my research with her offspring, nieces, nephews, etc., in the form of emailed reports or charts, plus links to findagrave memorials for our mutual relatives that show pictures. If anyone is interested, my email is bryangodfrey@msn.com, or feel free to text or call me at 804-543-7200. I can also add updates on her family to my database, including her many great-grandchildren I don't have. I grew up in Newport News, and my brother went to Hidenwood Elementary School in the late 1980s where her daughter later served as principal.

Annette, Gwen, and Andy, Your Mom touched the lives of so many students, teachers, and staff in her work at WBHS and we're thankful to be included in that group! She always had a sweet smile and positive disposition in a job that could be difficult at times. She was so proud of you all and excited to provide updates to all who knew you. Please know that you and your families are in our thoughts and prayers. May the memories of time spent together and your shared faith in Christ be sources of comfort and peace in the days to come.
