David Scherer, a retired electrical engineer for the City of New York, passed away on February 11, 2024, in Williamsburg, VA at the age of 93. He was surrounded by his loving family and friends. David was born in Brooklyn NY and resided in New York until his retirement when he relocated to Williamsburg.

David had a passion for photography and dedicated much of his time to capturing the essence of Colonial Williamsburg. He would eagerly volunteer at various events and document projects, leaving behind a beautiful visual record of the community he cherished. Additionally, he was a member of both the Virginia Symphony and Williamsburg Symphony.

Beyond his creative pursuits, David was an active participant in local politics. He was an esteemed member of the Williamsburg/JCC Democratic Party and played an important role within the Brandywine Homeowner’s Association during his nearly two decades of residence.

David will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, Elise L. Emanuel; son, Mark Nazimova, and Mark’s significant other, Ghada Captan.

David is preceded in death by his parents, Rose Maskowitz Scherer and Henry Scherer, as well as his brother, Nathan, and sister-in-law, Marcia.

A memorial service will be held to honor David’s life on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at 1:30PM at Bucktrout Funeral Home. Family, friends, and all those whose lives were touched by David are invited to attend and pay their respects.

He will be remembered for his kind heart, unwavering dedication, and the lasting impact he made on the community he served. May he rest in eternal peace.

    Dave and I had a "New York" connection and enjoyed many fun times together. Occasionally, he invited me to join him at VSO events when Elise had other obligations. I am so very sorry to hear of his passing and send my love to his beloved wife Elise and family. I am grateful for all the wonderful memories we shared together.
