Curtis Allen Haden III, affectionately known as “Al” or “Pop”, 94, of Williamsburg, Va. passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 3, 2024. He was born on May 19, 1929, in Crozet, Virginia.

Al led a long and remarkable life filled with various accomplishments and fond memories. Al grew up working with his brother in his father’s peach orchard in Albemarle county. He was a graduate of Waynesboro High School. Additionally, he attended Fork Union Military Academy and the University of Virginia. He was drafted into the Army and served during the Korean War starting in 1951. Later, Al embarked on a successful career as a sales agent at Allstate Insurance where he dedicated an impressive 42.5 years to the company before retiring.

Pop was very passionate about nature and the great outdoors. For many years, he was an active member of Ducks Unlimited and the Wild Turkey Federation, organizations that aligned with his passion for nature and wildlife conservation. He found peace and joy in outdoor activities like fishing, hunting, and golfing and could frequently be found either on the water, in the woods or on a golf course.

Al possessed a remarkable sense of humor and quick wit, which endeared him to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He never met a stranger as he effortlessly formed connections with others wherever he went. In his later years, Al always had a new truck. His most recent truck was bought when he was 94.

Pop had a love and fondness for dogs, particularly hunting dogs, and he owned many different breeds over the years. His most recent four-legged furry friend, Jake, was his loyal and constant companion, always by his side.

Al is preceded in death by his parents, Curtis Allen Haden II and Susie Hubbard Haden, as well as his brother John Patterson Haden. He leaves behind a loving family and countless friends who will forever cherish his memory. Al is survived by his devoted wife of 39 years, Loretta Marie Haden; his daughters, Mary Katherine Haden Puryear (Clinton, NC), Sandra Lee Haden (Garland, NC); son, William Seward Haden (Newport News, VA); as well as his stepdaughter, Nancy Snead Bennett (Warrenton, VA); stepdaughter, Laura Vogt (Kansas City, MO); and stepson Ned Eddy (Kansas City, MO).
