Brown, E. Alden

Edward Alden Brown, 91, of Williamsburg, VA, died on December 21, 2016.  He was a native of Ashland, NH, the son of the late Robert F. and Bertha C. Brown and had resided at Brookdale in Williamsburg since 2009, after moving from Edgewater, FL.  Mr. Brown was a retired Branch Manager of the Defense Contract Audit Agency.  During WWII, he became a naval aviator and, after release to inactive duty, he spent 14 years in the Select Reserve in various air antisubmarine squadrons.  He was a Past Master of the former Mt. Prospect Lodge #69, F&AM, Ashland, NH, and a 70-year member of Olive Branch Mt. Prospect Lodge #16, F& AM, Holderness, NH.  After retiring, he greatly enjoyed an unstructured life of being an avid fisherman in the Florida Keys, going to yard sales wherever he was, and doing some volunteer work.

Mr. Brown was preceded in death by Helen, his wife of 63 years, who died in 2012.  He is also preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth, and brother-in-law, Mendon MacDonald, of Laconia, NH, who died in 2015.  He is survived by three daughters:  Cheryl Hastings (John), of Yorktown, VA; Caryn Hull (Dave), of Greensboro, NC; Charme Dawson (Jack) of Colorado Springs, CO; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

There will be a graveside service at the family plot in NH at the convenience of the family, where the cremated remains of both he and Helen will be interred.  Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.  Online condolences may be shared at bucktroutfuneralhome.net.
