Betty Jane Jones Crane, 91, went to be with the Lord Father in Heaven on Saturday, July 10, 2021.  She left this earth peacefully, in her Williamsburg home with her loving family by her side.  Betty was born in Georgia to the late John Henry “Jack” and Mary Margaret “Maggie” Byrd Jones.

Betty married Charles Clifford Crane, Sr. and together they had four children. She enjoyed simple things and didn’t like to make a fuss. Being a mother was her calling and she was a mother to all children in her life.  She was instrumental in raising not only her own children but the children of family and neighbors. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Newport News.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents and husband. Survivors include her children; Carolyn Mae Tilley (Jerry), Charles David Crane (Stacey), Charles Clifford Crane, Jr. (David Dauphin) and Susan Lynn Murdoch (Jeffrey); siblings, Mary Jones Grabiett and John “Buck” Henry Jones; grandchildren, Tina Lynn Glazebrook, Jennifer Lauren Allison, Rachael Louise Crane, Carrie Tilley, Adam, Aaron, Alex and Austin Crane, Clayton Murdoch, Jamie Mintz, and Sharon Sledd. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Emily and William Glazebrook, Katelyn Trist, Cecilia, Isak and Aidan Crane, Dallas Rose Wightman, Waylon Allison, Preston and Clayton Murdoch, and Caden, Kiley, Bo, Kinley and Baylee Mintz.

A celebration of Betty’s life will be held at her son’s house in Williamsburg on Saturday, July 17th from 12-5pm.  In lieu of flowers memorial contribution may be made to Heartland Hospice, 41 Old Oyster Point Road Suite D, Newport News, VA 23602.

    I didn't know Betty a long time but when I did she felt like a mom to me. My memory of Betty I did her nails one time and she Loved it I felt so special.     I grew up acrossed across the street. Betty used to babysit me when I was small. She take me everywhere. I learned plenty about the chickens and horses. I loved riding Sugarfoot and helping her make butter. Lol Nothing but great memories of Mrs. Crane. Loved her very much. ❤
