Gifts & Memorial Donations

WILLIAMSBURG – Barbara Nelson Warley, formerly of Newport News, died suddenly on February 21, 2014 in Williamsburg. She was born in Spokane, Washington and grew up in Coeur d’Alene Idaho. At age 19, she joined United Airlines and was based in New York City. There she met her husband of forty-two years, John Caldwell Warley, Jr. They married on December 18, 1971 in Washington D.C.’s National Cathedral. In 1972 they moved to Newport News, where John worked as an Assistant Commonwealth Attorney and she promoted special events at Thalhimers. In 1991 Barbara donated a kidney to her late sister, Beth Nelson Hutchison. Barbara and John, together with children MaryBeth and Carter, moved to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, where Barbara was active in Patronato Pro Ninos, an organization dedicated to serving the medical needs of Mexican children. Later, in Beaufort, South Carolina, she served as marketing and public relations director for Friends of Caroline Hospice and worked with troubled youth at the Beaufort Marine Institute. In these things, and all she did, Barbara put others before herself. The House of Warley mourns the loss of its spirit, its soul, its heart. She is survived by John, son John Caldwell Warley, III, his wife Nessa Snyder Warley, his daughter Addington Eliza Warley of Charleston, S.C.; son Nelson V. Warley, his wife Heather Partridge Warley, their children Anna Barnwell Warley and Ellis Nelson Warley of Wallingford, PA.; daughter MaryBeth Warley Lockwood and her husband Andrew Lockwood of San Diego, CA.; and son Carter Barnwell Warley, his wife Erin Gemma, and sons Elijah McCall Gemma and Oliver Barnwell Warley of Williamsburg; her nephew Christopher Duplessis, his wife Ann Duplessis, and their children Nelson, Tucker and Johnson of Charlotte, N.C.; her nieces Rachel Langenderfer and her husband Matt and their children Jack, Christopher, Nick and Matt of Cincinnati, OH.; Barbara Hutchison of Boise, Idaho, and Helen Hutchison of Charlotte, N.C. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, February 25, at noon at Bucktrout Funeral Home, 4124 Ironbound Road, Williamsburg.
