Altmeyer Funeral Home: Committed to quality service and family values for over a century.

As a family-owned and operated business since 1917, we have a strong sense of who we are and our direction for the future.

Founded by James P. Altmeyer, the first location was at 1105 Chapline Street in Wheeling, West Virginia. Five years later, the funeral home moved to 1400 Eoff Street were it is located today.

In 1947, the second location was opened at 214 Marshall Street in McMechen, West Virginia. And in 1955, Altmeyer expanded to a third location at 154 Kruger Street in Elm Grove, West Virginia.

In 1990, Altmeyer purchased the Martin Funeral Home in East Liverpool, Ohio now known as Martin-MacLean-Altmeyer Funeral Home. In the same year, they also purchased the Martin-MacLean Funeral Home in Wellsville, Ohio.

Altmeyer Funeral Home acquired Kirby-Vance Funeral Home of McMechen and Lutes Funeral Home in Moundsville in 1991. Today, this location is known as the Altmeyer Funeral Home, Lutes & Kirby-Vance Chapel.

A few years later, Beisweinger Funeral Home in South Wheeling was purchased and renamed the Altmeyer Funeral Home - South Wheeling.

In 1998, after rapid growth in the Tidewater area, Altmeyer Funeral Home - Virginia Beach was established under the direction of James E. Altmeyer, Jr.

Shortly after, Altmeyer purchased Beck Funeral Home in Clairsville, Ohio. Upon completion of extensive renovations, the facility was renamed Beck-Altmeyer Funeral Home.

In March 2000, the Altmeyers opened another facility, their newest funeral home, the Martin-MacLean-Altmeyer Funeral Home at 15872 St. Clair Avenue in Calcutta, Ohio.

On July 1st, 2000, a new location was opened in the Denbigh area of Newport News, Virginia at 122893 Jefferson Avenue. Soon after, the Altmeyers purchased Bauknecht Funeral Homes in Bellaire, Shadyside, and Powhatan Point, Ohio.

The most recent acquire was in October 2007 with the purchase of the Maestas Funeral Home at 1801 Baltic Avenue in Virginia Beach.

Altmeyer Funeral Home now operates 17 facilities in 3 states: Ohio, Virginia and West Virginia.

Families who are grieving a loss continue to call upon the Altmeyer Funeral Home as they have for decades because they know they will be treated as family. As we have grown, that same quality of service has been extended to many communities in the Ohio Valley area as well as other communities throughout the eastern portion of the country.

Serving thousands of families each year, Altmeyer Funeral Homes has stayed true to the values James P. Altmeyer instilled in the company over a century ago: quality service, honesty, and a strong work ethic.
